Editor and Publisher magazine (www.editorandpublisher.com) today signed an agreement with Pressmart Media Ltd. (www.pressmart.net) to provide a digital, same-as-print electronic edition of the newspaper publishing industry's leading trade publication.
In a joint statement, E and P Publisher Chas McKeown said, "The Pressmart state-of-the-art solution will provide our readership access to Editor and Publisher on multiple digital distribution channels including eEditions; Podcasts; Mobile devices and eArchives." Yahoo Inc. has rejected the latest attempt by Microsoft and activist investor Carl Icahn to buy its online search operations in a "take or leave it" proposal that Yahoo said would have dismantled its Internet franchise. As described by Yahoo in a statement released late Saturday, Microsoft packaged its latest offer with activist investor Carl Icahn, a billionaire who is seeking to overthrow Yahoo's board of directors in a shareholder meeting scheduled for August 1. NBC Universal and private equity firms Bain Capital and Blackstone Group said on Sunday they agreed to buy The Weather Channel from Landmark Communications. Terms of the widely expected deal were not disclosed, but sources familiar with the transaction said the price tag was just under $3.5 billion. What's there to hide in the deal dam it?
TV Newser reports that two days after CBS Corp. announced the completion of its acquisition of CNET, CBS News content is being featured on CNET.com for the very first time. Early Show anchor Harry Smith's interview with CNET senior editor Natali Del Conti is on the consumer electronics page.

CBS is said to be
preparing an "important" partnership with Yahoo. The Internet company is expected to join the CBS Audience Network, which streams some 70,000 videos to more than 300 partners, including YouTube, AOL, MSN, Joost, Veoh, Fancast and Bebo.
CBS chairman Sumner Redstone says that the company never will be reunited with sibling Viacom, which he also controls. A renewed combination will "absolutely not happen" despite a recent report suggesting that Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman is pushing for it sometime in the future.
Time Inc.'s People.com is acquiring Celebrity Baby Blog, a four-year-old site devoted to celebrities and their babies, from founder Danielle Friedland. People.com hopes the site, located at celebrity-babies.com, will grow its largely female audience, while it plans other additions. Danielle's former blog is here.
Microsoft didn't approach Facebook about an acquisition after it walked away from its bid for Yahoo, despite recent news reports, say sources at the software giant. Microsoft expects to make Internet acquisitions of various sizes over time. Also, the Yahoo pursuit "really is over."

The merger of satellite radio rivals Sirius and XM is likely to see approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission within two to four weeks, according to Bear Stearns analyst Robert Peck. "Conditions could include providing limited carriage to other content providers."
CBS is said to have held talks with Time Warner about a deal to outsource some of its news-gathering operations to CNN. The talks include reducing CBS's news-gathering capacity while keeping top personalities like anchor Katie Couric. Also: CBS News says it has no plans to outsource to CNN.

Sirius Satellite Radio head Mel Karmazin says he hopes U.S. regulators will rule by the end of March on his company's proposed $4.2 billion merger with rival XM. "The fact that it has lingered this long, it has been interpreted ... as good news." He cautions, however, that the time frame could change. Mel, I'm done waiting for this merger.
