TEE OFF.........as Golfweek's Editor is told he's BEEN FIRED THIS MORNING!!!
One day after PGA Tour executives threatened to pull their advertising because of a racially insensitive cover graphic of a noose, Golfweek magazine replaced its longtime editor and vice president, Dave Seanor. I just did this story this morning and I am just getting this press release after Keminications demanded a statement in an earlier e-mail. Jeff Babineau, a senior writer, is the new top editor. In the press release, it said....
"We apologize for creating this graphic cover that received extreme negative reaction from consumers, subscribers and advertisers across the country," said William P. Kupper Jr., president of Turnstile Publishing Co., the parent company of Golfweek. "We were trying to convey the controversial issue with a strong and provocative graphic image. It is now obvious that the overall reaction to our cover deeply offended many people. For that, we are deeply apologetic."After all that noose crap all over the US in the fall and a comment from an idiotic Golf Channel commentator about Tiger Woods, have we in the media learned a lesson at all about story selection? BTW, Losing your job on a Friday is the worst thing that can happen to you! (Not Funny!)
