Now comes word that Talk show host OPRAH WINFREY has cancelled her charity spectacular OPRAH'S BIG GIVE. The show, which recently completed its first run on U.S. network ABC, invited 10 members of the public to battle over who could find the best and most unusual ways to raise money for a selection of good causes.
During its month-long run, the show generated millions of dollars for charity; and included celebrity guest appearances from superstars Jennifer Aniston and John Travolta. ABC were desperate to tie Winfrey down for a second season - but the media queen has said no. Network boss Steven McPherson tells the New York Post, "We loved that show and absolutely would have loved to bring it back. But it was something Oprah didn't want to do."

PARIS HILTON jumped at the chance to make a fresh start with U.S. talk-show host DAVID LETTERMAN - because she has so many products to sell. The socialite was humiliated when the late-night TV presenter grilled her about her prison stint during an infamous interview after she was released last year (07), prompting Hilton's vow never to return to the show. the clock. Given a very brief time on the air, how do you get the
story across and make it informative and entertaining for the listener?
Concisely reducing the biography of a great actor to 45 seconds can be
daunting. It's an art we've all mastered well at 680News.
Q: What was the most memorable story you've covered in your career at
680News?
GLORIA MARTIN: It's hard to say that one story is the most memorable.
For me, covering the entertainment beat, it's the memorable people. What
stays with me are things like how smart Joan Rivers is as a
businesswoman, how utterly charming Anthony Hopkins is, what a great sense of
humour Michael Caine has and how humble he is as an actor, how Harrison
Ford doesn't suffer fools or how Jay Leno hasn't spent a penny of his
earnings from the Tonight Show but instead continues to earn his living as
a stand up comic! I'm also continually blown away by our own Canadian
talent like David Cronenberg, Sandra Oh, Sarah Polley and so many more.
Q: What is the most important personality trait and skill one needs to
be a successful broadcast journalist?
GLORIA MARTIN:Curiosity about people and situations. If you're not
interested, it will show. Skills - writing, writing, writing and to be on
the air, you need to find your voice and be confident. You can have a
terrible voice and still have a great career if you have confidence in
yourself. Just listen to Rod Stewart!
Q: Give us a quote about your position/experience here at 680News.
GLORIA MARTIN: I have a great job and I get to meet some fascinating
people. It took me a long time. I paid my dues. But I am finally doing
what I love. The hours can be gruelling, but there's always a feeling of
accomplishment with the final product. People constantly tell me how
much they like my reports and how much they love 680News. That makes it
all worth it.

TORONTO (Reuters) - An attendant at a Canadian restaurant who was sacked for giving a bite-sized doughnut, worth 16 cents, to an agitated toddler was given her job back on Thursday after the case received wide media attention. Nicole Lilliman, a single mother, said she was dismissed from a London, Ontario, outlet of the Tim Hortons coffee and doughnut chain after video cameras captured the 27-year-old giving a Timbit to a toddler.
"It was just out of my heart, she (the toddler) was pointing and going 'ah, ah...' I should have gone to my purse and got the change, but it was busy," Lilliman told the Toronto Star newspaper. Tim Hortons said on Thursday that the firing was a mistake.
